After a very long and very cold winter it feels like spring is finally here with several days of warm sunshine bringing many people and a host of wildlife into the Country Park.

Friends of Wycoller Children’s walks, in the form of a ‘treasure map’, designed by John Crow, are proving a great success. Children lead the adults on these walks. Lots of families have now tried out these walks and the feedback has been 100% positive. The walks can be downloaded from our web site. Laminated copies can be borrowed from the Aisled Barn  Information Pod. (Returnable after the walk).

Spring is late – very late

Details of wildlife spotted by visitors to Wycoller Country Park in January and February have confirmed that spring was already late arriving – before the recent snowfall and freezing temperatures.

Compared with previous years the species of plants and animals recorded showed that the district was significantly behind previous years. Many plants will have stopped growing during the wintry weather and most of the birds and animals will have been having a tough time when they should be enjoying the first warm days of spring.

Going Batty 2013

Natterers Bat Friends of Wycoller Bat Walks for 2013 have now been finalised. People enjoyed hearing the bats hunting using our Bat Detectors last year.

Try the experience yourselves this year.

Check out 2013 dates via the Events button top of page.

Shortly before the bats left for winter hibernation Junior rangers were able to help with the rescue of a juvenile pipistrelle bat which had become exhausted and dehydrated. The bat rescue people were able to take the bat away to the Bat Hospital for care, until it was strong enough to be returned to it’s roost.
